How Much Water Should You Drink in the UAE Summer? A Practical Hydration Guide
Between June and September, temperatures in Abu Dhabi regularly pass 40°C with high humidity. In these conditions the body can lose more than a litre of fluid an hour through sweat during outdoor activity. Here is a practical guide to staying hydrated.
Daily water targets in hot weather
| Who | Typical daily target | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Adults (indoor, air-conditioned) | 2 – 2.5 litres | More if you exercise or drink coffee |
| Adults spending time outdoors | 3 – 4 litres | Drink 250 ml every 20 minutes when active outside |
| Outdoor and site workers | 4 litres or more | Follow the midday break rule and employer HSE guidance |
| Children (school age) | 1.2 – 1.8 litres | Send a 330 ml or 500 ml bottle to school and refill |
These are general guidelines; people with medical conditions should follow their doctor’s advice.
Signs you are not drinking enough
- Dark yellow urine or going to the bathroom less than usual
- Headache, tiredness or difficulty concentrating in the afternoon
- Dry mouth, dizziness when standing up
- Muscle cramps after being outside
Simple ways to drink more
Keep water within reach
A 5-gallon dispenser in the kitchen or office pantry removes the effort of buying and carrying bottles. A Liwa refill costs 7 AED and is delivered free.
Give everyone their own bottle
Small bottles make it easy to track intake: 330 ml for the car and school bag, 500 ml for the gym, 1.5L for the desk. Browse sizes.
Set a schedule
Drink a glass on waking, one with every meal and one before bed. At work, a bottle every two hours keeps you on target.
Choose water you trust
Purified, laboratory-tested water tastes clean, which makes it easier to drink more of it. Liwa water is purified by reverse osmosis, UV and ozone and tested in our quality laboratory every batch.
